Is Liposuction Safe?
Liposuction has been safely administered for decades. During its lengthy history, the procedure has become significantly safer, and associated health complications nearly mitigated. This does not mean it’s a completely risk-free procedure. Anytime surgery is involved, complications can arise. However, there are certain realities that can give a better insight into the safety of liposuction. Treatment is performed in an outpatient surgery center, and does not require an overnight stay. Many areas of the body can be treated using only a local anesthetic. Commonly sedation or “twilight” anesthesia is used for larger procedures. New technology, such as Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL), reduces the traumatic impact to the body. Many of our patients have left positive reviews (link) of their experience.
Will I Lose Weight With Liposuction?
Liposuction in Denver is not a weight loss solution. In order to lose weight, a healthy diet and exercise plan must be in place to supplement treatment. Most patients who treat their abdomen do provide feedback that they drop one or two pant sizes. It is a contouring procedure that will sculpt the body and get rid of fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Will Liposuction Tighten My Skin?
Liposuction is not a tightening procedure. Some areas of the body improve in regards to laxity, but it is important to understand that in some cases, patients may get loose skin after getting significant amounts of fat removed. With that said, discussing options such as abdominoplasty, body lift, arm lift, etc. is beneficial to determine if the procedure will give you the most ideal post-surgical result.
How Is Liposuction Performed?
Power Assisted Liposuction (also known as PAL) utilizes a hand-piece that oscillates the cannula back and forth 4000 times per minute. The power of PAL helps mobilize the fat cells, leading to a less traumatic removal, resulting in less swelling and bruising and therefore an easier recovery for patients. This is achieved without complications that other techniques, including heat producing techniques like lasers and ultrasound tend to have. The action of the PAL hand piece helps make the surgery more efficient, and most patients are back to work within 5 – 7 days. Patients are advised to refrain from weight-bearing exercises for two weeks.
Discussion
Liposuction is a powerful tool to help you achieve the desired shape, and removing areas of stubborn fat. It is a generally safe procedure, which can be performed using a local anesthetic. Using new technology such as PAL improves the process, while reducing trauma to the body. The increased confidence that comes with fitting into smaller sizes can have numerous health and psychological benefits.
