Chemical peels and other skin rejuvenation methods not only have the ability to remove dead or damaged skin cells but can also promote new skin cell and collagen growth. You have many options in your skin treatment and care; schedule a consult with one of Dr. Murphy’s skin care specialist to discuss your specific skin care issues and needs.
Microdermabasion
Microdermabrasion is an exfoliation that gently removes dead cells from the skin surface revealing refreshed, glowing skin underneath. At Murphy Plastic Surgery we use a fine grain aluminum oxide crystal that is simultaneously sprayed and removed along with old skin. Microdermabrasion treatments are used for all skin types with consistent, reliable results. Treatments usually take about 30 minutes and there is no downtime associated with Microdermabrasion treatments. This is a great treatment before a big event to brighten your skin or in a series of treatments to improve the overall texture of the skin. Microdermabrasion can be done by itself or in combination with a Broad Band Light treatment. The typical cost for a Microdermabrasion treatment is $50 for the full face.
Skin Medica Chemical Peels
Skin Medica professional skin care products were pioneered over a decade ago and are only used and sold through physicians. The skin care line has three levels of skin peels to treat a variety of skin types and issues. The Illuminize Peel is the lightest peel and great for those just getting started with professional skin care. After an Illuminize Peel your skin will be glowing and radiant. The moderate peel in the Skin Medica system is the Vitalize peel. The Vitalize Peel uses salicylic acid and Retinol which will cause physical peeling. This peel improves skin imperfections like sun damage and acne as well as improve tone, texture and clarity of the skin. The strongest of the peels is the Rejuvenize peel which includes a lactic acid in addition to the salicylic acid and Retinol to help treat moderate to severe skin imperfections. We recommend using any or all of the Skin Medica chemical peels in a series to see marked improvement in the tone, texture and brightness of your skin.
Vi Peel
The Vi Peel contains a synergistic blend of powerful ingredients that will work with all types of skin. This peel provides dramatic results with virtually no pain, no skin preparation and little downtime, full healing occurs in a week to ten days. The Vi Peel will improve the tonality and clarity of your skin; lessen or eradicate age spots, freckles, and other pigmentation issues, diminish wrinkles and lines; clear acne skin conditions; and motivate the production of collagen, for firmer, more youthful skin.
BBL Broad Band Light Treatments
Various abnormalities of the skin can be treated by pulses of intense light. The wavelength of that light can be adjusted to treat specific abnormalities such as red or brown pigmented areas. Our BBL (broad band light) machine is a very versatile machine and has proven very useful, safe and predictable in settling down areas of increased pigmentation/age spots, spider veins and redness of the face and neck, scars and acne. Penetration of the light waves into the dermis has been shown to rejuvenate the skin by increasing collagen. Frequently the BBL is combined with microdermabrasion as a treatment we call a Photofacial.
Microlaser Peel
A Microlaser peel is our most intense peel that penetrates to deeper tissue but is less invasive with less healing time than a full skin resurfacing procedure. Sometimes referred to as a weekend skin peel, healing is 3-4 days of redness followed by a week of skin sloughing; this procedure can include some discomfort, emulating sunburn. The results are noticeable with softer, smoother skin.
Photofacial
The photofacial treatment is a combination of Microdermabrasion with Broad Band Light. This treatment helps treat lines, small facial veins, redness and other facial blemishes. During the photofacial treatment you will first be treated with a microdermabrasion, which brings redness to the surface, followed by the Broad Band Light Laser. Treatments usually take 45 minutes and you can return to normal daily activities right away. After the procedure you will be red. The redness usually fades within a few days though you may notice some darkening and flaking of blemishes for a few weeks. After having a photofacial treatment your skin will look and feel smother and discolorations will be less noticeable. As with all of our treatments we recommend having a series of these treatments to get optimal results.
