Research Activities

Dr. Murphy has been involved in multiple research studies involving silicone breast implants. Over the last 10 years he has been an investigator on up to 6 silicone breast implant studies at one time. After approval of silicone implants for breast augmentation he was involved with the breast implant follow-up study for Allergan, following and reporting on hundreds of patients who have had placement of silicone breast implants.

Dr. Murphy was one of the few surgeons across the country, and the only surgeon in the Rocky Mountain region, who was an investigator on the Core steady leading up to approval of the 410 style “gummy bear” implants which have proven to be a revolution in breast reconstruction and breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Murphy is now an investigator in the post- approval study for the core study group for the 410 style implant. There is a new study underway for higher profile 410 implants and Dr Murphy is one of the few surgeons across the country who is involved with this next approval study for the 410 style implants which will increase availability for this kind of implants for breast augmentation and reconstructive patients.

Dr. Murphy spent the weekend of Oct 19 in Chicago at a biolabs course for the revolutionary new soft tissue implant, Seri, which is designed for repair and support of soft tissue defects. Seri has also proven very useful in revision breast augmentation surgery. He is one or 200 physician across the country who was selected for this course and who is now approved for use with this FDA approved silk based soft tissue implant for soft tissue reconstruction. Dr Murphy was chosen for this course due to his expertise in breast augmentation surgery and revision breast surgery.
