Assessment of the patient requesting buttock enhancement requires a close observation of the anatomy of the trunk, buttock and upper thigh areas and how these areas interact and blend to establish the contour of the area. Many patients, especially thinner patients are best treated with simply a buttock augmentation with an implant. This is accomplished with well hidden incisions in the buttock fold area. The implant must be properly fitted based upon the anatomy and measurements of the patient. The implant is inserted deep to the investing fascia layer of the gluteal muscle.
Lipoplasty Techniques
Many of the patients we see however require a more intense scrutiny of the buttock area and the fat deposits in the area. These patients typically will benefit from recontouring of the area via lipoplasty techniques. These typically are a combination of liposuction of fuller areas along the periphery of the buttock area usually combined with central grafting of the fat removed from the periphery. How much fat to be removed and the volume to be injected depend on the existing anatomy of the patient.
These fat grafting techniques offer multiple benefits to the appropriate patient. They are safe and predictable and avoid the issues potentially raised with placement of an implant into the area.
Recovery
Buttock contouring procedures are typically done under general anesthesia as an outpatient. Recovery typically involves limitation of activity for a number of weeks to allow areas to heal with the appropriate contour.
